In India, farming is the main occupation of more than half of its citizen. Farming is also considered as a religious practice as it is directly linked to our daily staple diet. The famous saying about farmers is so true here and as it goes… “If you ate today Thank A Farmer.”
Since many years we hear news about drought based famine, flooding of the farms and even in cases when farmers are broke and don’t have money to cultivate their crops which ultimately destroys the crops. In such situations it is very sad for the farmers and often they commit crimes like stealing money, frauds and even some commit suicide.
The Government of Odisha has recently launched a scheme for landless farmers called “Balaram Yojana”
Considering the annual high rise in suicide rate of farmers in India, Odisha government came up with a yojana which give them many benefits. This scheme can prove to be a helping hand as this will provide them crop loan. The plan of work is as such – Odisha government will provide loan according to joint liability group (jlg’s). Under this yojana, the government will give loans to 7 lakh landless farmers (approximately) in two years.
The Institute of Management Of Agricultural Extension is also involved in this initiative. This shall assist the government in the execution of this scheme. The interest rate of the loan will be decided by the government and The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development(NABARD) is also a part of this scheme.
LEARNING TO DO, DOING TO LEARN, EARNING TO LIVE, LIVING TO SERVER
